When is it safe to start using evening primrose oil during pregnancy?
I will be 34 weeks on Monday and i want to know when it will be safe to start using evening primrose oil. When can i safely start using it? How much? Orally? Vaginally? Both?
It can safely be used at 36 weeks and later.
****You do not want to use it any earlier because the EPO is used to prepare and soften the cervix. If you use it too early it could bring on pre-term labor.****
You can take it orally and apply it vaginally.... I started puncturing the capsules and applying the EPO once daily to my cervix at 36 weeks. Do this at night, right before you're ready to go to sleep so it won't leak out. You may want to wear a pad also, as it can get a little icky when you wake up. After a week of doing that I added 1 pill a day, orally until birth.
I do believe it really helped. Although I was induced because of medical reasons, my labor went quite fast (once the doctors figured out what to do!) I will definitely use it again next pregnancy.
