L-Arginine is often taken as a supplement. However, there are also various natural sources of it. This article mentions some of them, as well as other general information about this item. L-Arginine is an L-form of the amino acid arginine. This form is amongst the 20 common amino acids, several others of which are: lysine, phenylalanine, tyrosine, proline, etc. A Swiss chemist by the name of Ernst Schultze was the first person known to have isolated arginine when he did so from extract of a lupin seedling. This occurred in 1886.
As for natural sources of L-Arginine, there are various ones in both animal and non-animal foods. For instance, it can be found in dairy products. A variety of meats like pork, beef, and wild game contain it. Poultry and seafood are also options for getting dietary intake of L-Arginine. On the other hand, it can also be ingested by eating chocolate. If you eat chick peas (garbanzo beans), or something made out of them, such as hummus, then you are also consuming L-Arginine. Looking for more options? Cooked soybeans, oatmeal and granola also contain it. You can also use wheat germ or flour to make a bread that has L-Arginine.
Keep in mind arginine is considered "conditionally essential" based upon the age and health of the person. For instance, infants do not meet their requirements of it, so they must have some kind of intake of it.
