FACT: Scent sells and so will you thanks to 'Mother Nature'. Research states that there are approximately 150 different species of flowers, herbs, seeds, roots, bark, tree resins and others that contain 'essential oils'. As to how all these affect us, only a small amount of these botanicals have been studied and incorporated into our lives. Virtually everyone today has heard the word 'Aromatherapy'. Although the use of 'essential oils' have been around since man has, the term 'Aromatherapy' has only been recently coined. Nevertheless, the written word about using these fragrant oils dates back more than 6000+ years ago from the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians - providing us with a compendium of uses in the areas of bathing, massage, perfumes, incense, embalming and more. In our case wherein we are promoting the sales of homes - the oils we are interested in are those that are known to stir memories, alter moods, relieve stress, promote the feeling of well-being and so much more. Studies with brain wave frequency has shown that smelling Lavender increases the alpha waves in the back of the head, which are associated with relaxation. The fragrance of Jasmine increases beta waves in the front of the head, which is associated with a more alert state.

"Buy Me" says the client's subconscious. "This is what I want to come home to". Isn't that what you want to hear aloud? Of course you do. Buying as well as selling a home can be a stressful time for almost everyone, so why not try and allay that tense or even traumatic behavior with the right smell. Harnessing the power of scent is a useful ability to encourage the predominance of certain emotions. In this particular situation you may choose a scent that gives your client the feeling of calmness and a sense of well-being or you may choose one that invigorates, yet still provides a sense of well-being.

Research has shown that the oils of lavender and vanilla can significantly reduce anxiety and depression in many individuals. The following list is a sampling of the conditions desired, and the 'essential oils' that seem to improve and enhance the users comfort level.

If you are considering incorporating these oils in the homes that you are selling and are concerned with allergies - 99% of the time there is no adverse reaction because 'essential oils' are 'pure'. On the other hand, 'synthetic' oils may contain Orris Root which definitely causes a myriad of reactions like a runny nose, watery, stinging eyes, a throat that feels like it's closing, and other uncomfortable symptoms. Perhaps you've heard people say that they are allergic to candles, potpourris and other scented potions for this very reason - but was never really sure why.

Another important factor that should always be considered is the quality of the oil and where it was purchased from. Don't judge by price alone. Unfortunately due to both the uneducated and the greedy, many oils are only 'fragrance' oils, but may be labeled under 'essential' or 'essence' oils. Please note the important difference. Many of these 'synthetic' oils may be cut with an carrier oil like olive, sunflower, sweet almond, grapeseed and others to extend the oils. Nevertheless, 'pure essential oils' are never adulterated with anything. They are what they say they are - 'pure essential oils'.

Should you choose to use 'fragrance oils' - of which there are many good ones - remember that they have no therapeutic benefits other than that 'feel good' feeling. Some of these fun oils are available in scents such as: French Vanilla, Coffee, Chocolate, Cinnamon, Balsam Fir, Bayberry, Lemon Verbena, Fresh Linen, Rain and oodles of others. Many folks use these oils as perfumes and other preparations - but many of the purported 'fragrance oils' are not 'skin-safe'. These too are sold under the guise of being all fragrance or mostly fragrance, when in fact many are primarily carrier oils or perhaps an unsafe petroleum based oil with only a few drops of fragrance. These are some of the considerations you need to be aware of when purchasing either 'pure essential oils' or 'fragrance oils'.
