Healing Reiki Attunement

A Reiki attunement is an essential part of Reiki training. To engage in Reiki healing, whether it be self-healing or healing others, you must first be attuned.

Reiki healing attunement is a process where your Reiki master awakens the healing energy already flowing through your body. There is much incorrect information out there about the whole attunement process, and many people believe that the master is transferring energy to the student in some way.

This is absolutely not the case. Instead, the master engages in a process of opening and clearing certain chakras in the student, such as the crown, palm and heart chakras. This allows the student to have a better connection with the source of universal life energy, which some refer to as the Reiki source.

The Reiki source is all around us. It does not come from a human person, even a master. The only role of the master is to use his or her training and experience to facilitate the connection and the attunement process. Indeed, the founder of modern Western Reiki attuned himself, although without the guidance of a program developed by an experienced master, only very few are successful with this approach.

Another misconception is that many attunements are required. In Reiki training there are three levels, and each level has an attunement. Significantly, only one attunement is required at each level, and the resultant energy benefit is permanent. Some people enjoy the attunement process so much that they voluntarily obtain multiple attunements, understanding that they are not required.

Indeed, the fact that they voluntarily obtain additional attunements is an endorsement of the benefits of Reiki attunement.

Like many other endeavors, you get out of a healing attunement what you put into it. If you leave all the effort to the master then the attunement you receive will not be as effective. Remember, you are using the Reiki healing attunement process to voluntarily awaken the healing energy already within you, so your efforts are just as important as those of the master.

And to get most out of an attunement, certain preparations are well advised. The responsibility for these preparations fall entirely on the student, although most masters will provide guidance on the preparations they have found to be successful on prior students.

This highlights the importance of the experience of the master in the Reiki attunement process! It stands to reason that the more experience the master has, the more insightful knowledge they can impart in terms of preparing for a Reiki healing attunement.

Most of the advice will revolve around diet and mental preparations.

Generally, students are encourages to refrain from eating meat for three to five days prior to the attunement. Additionally, subject to health considerations, a water or juice fast for two to three days might be appropriate.

Caffeine intake should be significantly reduced in the days prior to an attunement, and no caffeine should be consumed the day prior to and the day of the attunement. It is also preferable to refrain from alcohol or nicotine for the five day prior to the Reiki attunement and the day itself.

Chocolate should also be avoided, and it is preferable to refrain from all sweet items. This helps the purification of the body immensely.

In terms of mental and other physical preparations, meditation is encouraged for an hour a day in the week prior to the attunement. Similarly, moderate exercise is encouraged as well as a positive frame of mind. Negative emotions are not helpful and you need to let go of these for the most effective attunement.

All of these preparations help you to open your mind to the endless healing and self realization opportunities that are waiting after the successful Reiki healing attunement.
