Autism Treatment – Using Probiotics in Autism Treatment

Let's talk about the different probiotics with respects to the difference between what are considered treatment specific probiotics and those that are more general probiotics. There are many varieties of probiotic products available right now on the market. Some examples of good multi-floral probiotics are Probiotic Support Formula from New Beginnings, Multi-Flora Spectrum from Kirkman and Therbiotic Complete by Klaire Labs. There are various other good multi-floral probiotics on the market with a number of good bacteria in them but these are three. And the way that I try and explain the role of these types of probiotics for your health is very much like a multi-vitamin but for your digestive systems. So products like Probiotic Support Formula, Multi-Flora Spectrum and Therbiotic Complete all aid in the health overall of the digestive tract.

Then we can cover probiotics that are considered more treatment specific. When we use treatment specific probiotics, we are targeting a specific disorder that we need treatment for. Culturelle is one example of a treatment specific probiotic. Culturelle is specific type of probiotic called acidophilus GG and it is particularly helpful against a specific type of bacteria called clostridia. Three Lac has been used by many people as an effective treatment for yeast. And so while you would use Three Lac as a remedy for yeast overgrowth, it would not be a good option as a long term, overall solution for general immune and digestive support. Another treatment specific probiotic is called VSL #3, VSL #3 is a very high potency probiotic used to help break down oxalates. Even though it can be effective against clostridia, the primary use of VSL #3 is as a part of an oxalate reducing treatment plan. Saccharomyces Boulardii is another treatment specific probiotic. And Saccharomyces Boulardii is a yeast that targets other yeasts so it can be effective against candida overgrowth. You can also take Saccharomyces Boulardii while taking antibiotics to help prevent a yeast infection from occurring. It can also be effective at treating clostridia as well.

There are many options out there when it comes to probiotics and I just wanted to give you an overview. And so to go over them again, we have what are called multi-floral probiotics which serve to enhance both the immune system and the digestive system and then we have treatment specific probiotics designed to treat certain issues as I explained above.
