Morning Sickness

Ginger has been shown to alleviate nausea for quite some time. It is an effective tactic to use when you are trying to figure out how to cure morning sickness. You can use ginger in a variety of forms and this article will explain a few.

Ginger tea: You can make a ginger tea that you can drink hot or cold. It is a simple recipe.

Ginger Tea Recipe

water, 4 cups
2-inch piece of fresh ginger root
optional: honey and lemon slice

Peel the ginger root and slice it into thin slices. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Once it is boiling, add the ginger. Cover it and reduce to a simmer for 15-20 minutes. Strain the tea. Add honey and lemon to taste.

If you are unable to make tea you can try a "preggie pop". These are basically ginger lolipops. You can find them at maternity stores as well as your regular department stores. Some women I've talked to have not liked the taste, but most have said they definitely worked to relieve the symptoms of morning sickness.

Crystalized Ginger is another alternative. If you're up for it you can make this yourself. If not, you can also buy it at the store. The smell of cooking ginger alone may help alleviate your nausea. You can make the crystallized ginger and keep a few pieces in a airtight bag to keep with you when you go out. Here's the recipe.

NGREDIENTS:

* 1 cup peeled, thinly sliced ginger

* 3 cups water

* 1 cup sugar

* Additional sugar to coat (optional)

PREPARATION:

In a covered saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Add the ginger pieces and sugar and cover. Reduce the heat and allow it to simmer for five minutes.

Remove from heat and allow it to sit for 20 minutes.

Heat the oven to 200 degrees F. Place the ginger slices in a glass pan. Place the pan in the oven until the slices are almost dry but still chewy. Allow it to cool.

Toss the cooled ginger in sugar to lightly coat it, if desired.

Store the crystallized ginger in an airtight container for up to two months.

Ginger ale is my next suggestion and again you can buy it at the store or you can make your own. You can even use the left over water from making the crystallized ginger to make your ginger ale. Here's the recipe. IF you are using leftover water from making crystallized ginger you can skip the first three steps.

INGREDIENTS:

* 1 cup sugar

* 2 cups club soda

* 1 teaspoon lime juice

PREPARATION:

In a covered saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Add the ginger pieces and sugar and cover. Reduce the heat and allow it to simmer for five minutes.

Remove from heat and allow it to sit for 20 minutes.

Strain the mixture and set aside the liquid.

Once it has cooled to room temperature go ahead and put it in the refrigerator

Mix the ginger sugar water with two cups of cold club soda. Add the lime juice. Stir and serve.
