One of the most likely uses of martial law would be if there was an area with severe sickness like a flu outbreak. The idea behind is this is to quarantine the residents in an area where there is an outbreak of a contagious sickness to help control the sickness or virus from continuing from spreading. Many have opinions on whether this should take place or not, but what really matter is how prepared you are for the situation.
During other disasters like a hurricane coming, most will spend the week before making sure they have a few supplies to get through storm. With a sickness or virus, it's probably not the best idea to go to the stores and bring in all sorts of outside goods that could be contaminated. It would be a better practice to gather these supplies now so that you can be sure what you have prepared for you and your family is safe.
Most legislation dealing with using martial law for an pandemic or epidemic does have procedures to bring food to the residents of the area. It's likely that you will have some outside supplies to go along with what you have stored at home. But to rely on food that comes from an area where most are very sick may not be the healthiest and safest choice.
Whether it's a pandemic or other disaster, build up a couple week supply of food storage in your home. You can get vacuum sealed meals, MRE's, and high calorie bars that backpackers and bikers use but it's easier to just stock up on supplies that you already use daily and just rotate the stock. Be sure to not overlook your water needs as well as any medical needs you or someone in your family might have.
